Our Philosophy

At Fluid Movement Podiatry we see every body as unique. The feet and legs are just one piece of a very well-engineered system. Therefore, when we assess someone we believe it’s important to assess their body as ‘one’. Fluid Movement Podiatry – as the name suggests – is all about optimising the bodies movement, to ensure it’s as comfortable and efficient as possible. We approach our assessment and treatments looking at the body as a whole and in doing so are better able to identify the origins of a problem. This broader approach helps to improve our patients’ outcomes both in the short and long-term. We offer the most up-to-date evidence-based treatments. We like to give our patients the power of knowledge, taking the time to explain each person’s complaint. We believe that with this knowledge our patients have a greater ability to take charge of their recovery and work with us to gain a positive outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I claim my treatment through my private health fund?

Yes.  Fluid Movement Podiatry has access to direct health fund claims via HICAPS facilities.  This allows on the spot claiming for those that have an eligible health fund policy.
We recommend you contact your health fund provider prior to your consultation to see what eligibility you have to claim a rebate for Podiatry services.

Do I need a referral to see a Podiatrist?

No. However Medicare, DVA, TAC and Worksafe patients will require a referral via their doctor.

Am I able to use my Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) card to see a Podiatrist?

Yes.  If your a Gold card holder, DVA will cover all Podiatry based expenses.  This will require a referral from your doctor prior to your appointment.  Please feel free to contact the clinic to gain all necessary information for your referral
If your a white or green card holder, you still maybe eligible to a full rebate, however this is determined by your doctor and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs prior to your appointment.  Please contact DVA to find out more.

Is my Podiatry appointment covered under Medicare?

Medicare can sometimes be used for Podiatry consultations.  If you have chronic or complex medical conditions, such as Diabetes or Rheumatoid Arthritis, you may be eligible to be placed on an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Plan.  This entitles you to be able to claim with Medicare.  The EPC is arranged by your doctor and referral made to Fluid Movement Podiatry.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Ideally we would like to see the footwear you generally wear.  This could include sports shoes, work footwear, casual shoes.

Any  scans that you may have had ( including x-rays, ultrasounds, MRI etc), plus any form of referral letter you may have from your doctor or other health professional.
If possible a pair of shorts can be very handy if we need to assess your posture and  gait pattern.  It helps us assess your feet, knees, hips and lower back a little easier.

Seldom you come across a health professional who instantly gives you that feeling of trust & wellbeing. You feel confident that this health professional will be able to help you. Ben Millerd of Fluid Movement Podiatry is one such health professional. He listens to the patients, diagnoses the cause of issue, defines a course of action and ensures that you understand that treatment and are also comfortable with that.
Ben helped me with my shins and feet. He ensured that the treatment is done in minimum possible visits. That’s what I call professional ethics.
Strongly recommended.

“After consulting over five podiatrist and sport physios including some who were supposedly the best in Melbourne, I was hugely disappointed by firstly not being diagnosed earlier but my frustration grew when they told me either stop running or to limit my races to 10k whilst recommending therapies that I was not fully informed and/or comfortable on.

As a last resort, I undertook a significant amount of research and shortlisted a list of 3 sport podiatrist to obtain a second opinion on my condition. I added Ben Millerd as the forth on the list due to his interest and involvement in university studies around 3D replacement on the sesamoid bone. His involvement in these studies, gave me an indication (even before meeting him) that he was passionate in his field and boy was I right!

I love fitness and running and I was direct with all podiatrist in explaining my locked view that I wanted to continue pursuing sport, fitness and running marathons despite my condition. Two out of four saw it as impossible due to what the scans were showing but the remaining two including Ben saw it possible. I selected Ben to be my (and my family’s) podiatrist due to his passion, knowledge and ability to translate the problem to patients. He was willing to try a rehabilitation plan to attend my unreasonable request to train for a marathon after an injury. Ben assisted me to train for a marathon in 2018 in an unbelievable 10weeks and I would not have done it without his guidance, exercise programs and knowledge. Ben was the only one willing and brave enough to try it with me after assessing my capabilities and limitations.

After wasting so much time and money in other so called ‘best in the industry’ and without mentioning names, I can, without a doubt call Ben Millerd the best podiatrist in Melbourne that I have consulted over the years. Ben has exceeded my expectations and offers far more than just podiatrist advise. His knowledge on the body’s biomechanics together with is creative podiatrist approach has assisted me to continue doing the sports I love including preparing for my third marathon this year.

Ben also helped my husband who has lived most of his life with chronic foot pain to reduce it to almost nil pain.

Finally, the exercise program Ben designs are presented via an easy to use App which gives you a clear explanation in a video format which even my 8 year old daughter can use.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Ben to anyone who wants to try to push their boundaries with professional guidance or to those who have tried numerous podiatrist/physios without seeing results.”
